Attractions and Curiosities at the “Doi misteri de ‘na bota” Festival
This cherished annual festival opens the spaces of old homes that retain their historical charm. Here, exhibits showcasing “old jobs” are set up, reflecting the activities that once formed the backbone of the local economy. Visitors can see demonstrations by carpenters, woodsmen, blacksmiths, and farmers, alongside traditional domestic activities like cooking, ironing, sewing, and child-rearing.
Past editions of Doi misteri de ‘na bota have also included workshops for children, ensuring this Val di Sole festival is suitable for all ages.
Music and dance play a vital role in the festival’s lively atmosphere, with performances by the local Band Corps, folklore groups, and musicians who revive the spirit of traditional community celebrations.
The event also features delicious local cuisine. Signature dishes include potato pancakes (tortei de patate), spinach gnocchi (strangolapreti), mushroom risotto, bread dumplings in broth (canederli), potato cake, and strudel.
In 2025, the festival Doi misteri de ‘na bota will highlight the theme of emigration, making it particularly meaningful for those exploring their Trentino roots. This year’s focus will be on emigration to Chile, where many locals sought fortune in the past. The event will blend local culture with those of emigrants’ destinations, exploring these connections through history, music, and food.
The festival is also an excellent opportunity to explore Dimaro and Carciato, which lie along the Meledrio stream. This area gives its name to both the valley and the appreciated Ecomuseum. The historical significance of these settlements extends back to a visit from Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sissi in the summer of 1894, a memory that continues to echo in the Val di Sole.
