Trento
First part of the workshop “A Borderland in the Heart of Europe”: a brief presentation on the regional context by a local expert and a participatory visit to the historic center of Trento with the assistance of a professional guide. Followed by lunch in a restaurant with regional cuisine.

San Michele all’Adige
Guided visit to the METS – Museo Etnografico Trentino San Michele, dedicated to the ancient agrosilvopastoral subsistence system of the Trentino valleys and their cultural traditions. Afterwards, dinner in a regional cuisine restaurant.

Molveno
In the morning, enjoy a guided visit to a mountain dairy and dairyman’s workshop to discover the ancient tradition of alpine pasturing and high-altitude cheese making in Trentino-Alto Adige. Lunch will be served with products from the dairy and local farmers.
In the afternoon, an easy mountain bike excursion with a specialized guide around Lake Molveno, a natural basin in the Brenta Dolomites, of great historical importance and now used for the production of hydroelectric power. The day ends with a dinner in a restaurant with regional cuisine.

Tret and St. Felix
The second part of the workshop “A borderland in the heart of Europe” is an easy hike with a mountain guide along the border between the provinces of Trentino-Alto Adige, Trento and Bolzano, in the area of the villages of Tret and St. Felix. This area was studied by the anthropologists Cole and Wolf for their work “The Hidden Frontier” on the different ways in which Latin and Germanic cultures adapted to the Alpine environment. Lunch in a restaurant with regional cuisine.

Predaia
Take a guided tour of the Sanctuary of San Romedio, a hermitage built on a rocky spur over the centuries, starting in the year 1000, and a place of great devotional importance, as evidenced by the numerous ex-votos visible along the rocky staircase that connects the five churches that make up the site.

Novella
Master class in potato tortel at a winery: a workshop with a local chef to prepare one of the most iconic dishes of Nones cuisine, followed by dinner and tasting of Trentino wines.

Bolzano
The third and final part of the workshop “A Borderland in the Heart of Europe”: an interactive visit to the historical center of Bolzano, accompanied by a professional guide. This will be followed by lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, meet with experts from the Bolzano FamilySearch Center, a world leader in genealogical research. This is followed by a guided tour of the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, internationally known for the natural mummy of Ötzi the Iceman, a unique find that has shed new light on prehistoric settlement in the Alpine region. The day ends with dinner in a restaurant serving regional cuisine.
