“Con la valisa in man – Castello Tesino Round Trip” will be held from August 9 to 11, 2024, organized by the Municipality of Castello Tesino in collaboration with local volunteer associations. The event focuses on the history of Trentino emigration. Below is the program and highlights of the hosting area.

Program of Con la valisa in man – Castello Tesino Round Trip

The event Con la valisa in man begins with the presentation of a book about emigration to the Belgian mines. This will be followed by a round table discussion on Trentino emigration, focusing on migration to Brazil in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the migration flow to Australia during the same period.

During the event Con la valisa in man there will also be a live streaming from Chile and screenings of the documentary “The Tyroleans in the Forest.” And again, there will be a presentation of the short film made by the folk group of Castello Tesino, in collaboration with the Brazilian folk groups of Rodeio and Nova Trento.

Children and young participants will present a project on emigration in Castello Tesino. Additionally, two local sculptors will create wooden artworks inspired by the theme.

The event will also feature a documentary and photographic exhibition on Castello Tesino’s emigration history.

Complementing the cultural aspect, typical Tesino gastronomic stands will be set up on Saturday and Sunday, showcasing ancient local delicacies for both locals and tourists to enjoy.

To conclude the event, a mountain choir will perform thematic songs, followed by a musical group offering a rich repertoire of world music.

Exploring Castello Tesino

The event “Con la valisa in man – Castello Tesino Round Trip” is also an opportunity to explore Castello Tesino and its plateau. The area is surrounded by some of Trentino’s largest forests, with numerous trails for exploration, ranging from extended treks into the surrounding mountains to educational paths like the “Mille volti del bosco” (“A Thousand Faces of the Forest”) leading to Passo Brocon.

But there are many attractions to include in a hypothetical tour of the area, from the Caves of Castello Tesino, karst cavities that have no equal in Trentino, to the Celado Astronomical Observatory.

It should also be mentioned that the cultural event “Con la valisa in man – Castello Tesino andata e ritorno” is held on the very days when the sky is crossed by the famous shooting stars of San Lorenzo: one more reason to look up at the sky on the night between Saturday and Sunday, in the knowledge that we are in a largely rural and wooded area, and therefore with little light pollution.
