On the last weekend of October, the village of Roncegno Terme in Valsugana, Trentino, attracts countless visitors eager to taste and purchase roasted chestnuts and a variety of chestnut-based sweets. But that’s not all—during the renowned Chestnut Festival, the town center comes alive with stalls offering local delicacies and artisanal products.
The Program of the Chestnut Festival
Over the years, the festival has expanded and enriched its program with various activities. Initially, it focused solely on selling chestnuts and chestnut-based desserts, which remains the festival’s core.
Now, the program includes guided excursions and walks through the chestnut groves, organized by the Roncegno Pro Loco, along with seminars dedicated to the world of chestnuts. These cover topics such as chestnut harvesting techniques, the uses of chestnut wood, and more.
A highlight is the parade through the town’s streets, concluding with dances in Piazza Montebello and several concerts.
For younger visitors, the Chestnut Festival offers children’s theater performances, face painting, workshops, and demonstrations of ancient trades.
Local restaurants and farm stays join the celebration by preparing themed menus. Additionally, food stalls offer not only roasted chestnuts and desserts but also mulled wine and craft beer.
