The Dimaro Festival (in the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida) is deeply rooted in history. A cherished event for the local community, it blends sacred and secular traditions, offering religious observances and joyful festivities with music, dancing, and local gastronomy.
Dates and Activities of San Lorenzo, the Dimaro Festival
As the feast honors the patron saint, celebrated on August 10, it is traditionally held over a long weekend close to this date. In 2025, the celebrations will begin on Friday, August 9, and conclude on the evening of Sunday, August 11, creating three days of festivity in Val di Sole.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, music and dancing bring the community together. Throughout all three days, attendees can enjoy a delicious culinary offering featuring typical local products, including meats, cheeses, and sweet treats.
On Sunday, August 11, the day begins with religious celebrations for the patron saint. The schedule includes a solemn Mass and the display of the village’s banner, followed by a procession through Dimaro’s streets with the statue of San Lorenzo. Traditionally carried by young men reaching adulthood, the statue is now borne by dedicated volunteers.
San Lorenzo, the patron saint of deacons, cooks, and firefighters, is also the patron of Dimaro. Revered as a martyr, his faith cost him his life under Emperor Valerian. His most notable story recounts his martyrdom on a gridiron.
Sunday afternoon offers community games for children and musical entertainment by the town’s Band Corps, keeping the festive spirit alive until the evening. The festivities culminate with music and dancing into the night.
Dimaro is also an exceptional location to stargaze during the nights of San Lorenzo and its “shooting stars,” thanks to its position in the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, away from city lights.
