The Feast of Santa Margherita is held annually in Marter, the largest hamlet of Roncegno Terme. The event takes place over the third weekend of July, in honor of Santa Margherita, celebrated on July 20.

The Feast of Santa Margherita in Marter

As a long-standing tradition honoring the town’s patroness, the Feast of Santa Margherita has been celebrated for decades. In its early years, the event was a simple affair, limited to a church service followed by a convivial gathering and the classic “pot of luck” game.

Since the 1980s, the event has expanded significantly, incorporating more games and activities for participants. Additionally, what was once a single-day celebration on Sunday has evolved into a three-day event, running from Friday to Sunday.

At the heart of the Feast of Santa Margherita, as with many local festivals, is the food and drink. The menu features simple, traditional summer dishes such as sandwiches, polenta, and fried foods, all prepared by volunteers from the Santa Margherita Festival Committee.

Beyond food and drinks, the festival offers games, including the traditional “pot of luck,” a lottery, and other family-friendly activities, especially for children. Music is another key element, ranging from traditional accordion-based ensembles for ballroom dancing to more contemporary music for younger audiences.

In recent years, the ancient tradition of the campanò, a bell concert marking the occasion, has been reintroduced to the festival.

The MarteRun Non-Competitive Walk

A standout feature of recent editions of the Feast of Santa Margherita is the MarteRun, a non-competitive walk through the village streets. Preceding the MarteRun is a Sprint Champion event, allowing children and young adults to test their speed in a 60-meter dash.

Organized by the Marter Sports Union, the MarteRun invites everyone to participate and brings the festival atmosphere to more remote areas of the village. Participants can approach the walk as they wish: some treat it as a race, while others enjoy a leisurely family stroll through the town. Two routes are available: a shorter 4-kilometer path and a longer 7-kilometer option.
