A cherished tradition for both locals and visitors, the Fair of San Bartolomeo in Romeno delights adults and children alike with the opportunity to see various farm animals up close. For years, the event, including the cattle parade and competition, has served as both a celebration and a forum for local breeders to discuss the past season in Val di Non and the latest advancements in livestock farming.

Program of the Ancient Fair of San Bartolomeo

The fair begins at 9 AM on Sunday in the picturesque Alice Park, hosting the cattle show. Local breeders from Val di Non will present their cows and heifers for public and jury evaluation.
Typically featuring Holstein and Brown Swiss breeds, the animals are assessed by industry experts. After the parade, the jury deliberates and awards the “Queen of the Show” title, symbolized by the presentation of a large bronze cowbell. This prestigious award is given to the winning breeder by representatives of Romeno’s local institutions.

The event, however, extends beyond the cattle show. Alongside the cows and heifers, other farm animals commonly raised in the area, such as goats, sheep, horses, and donkeys, will also be present.
Meanwhile, Romeno’s streets and squares will be bustling with the fair’s market stalls, offering a lively atmosphere for visitors. The day culminates with a farmer’s lunch served in Alice Park. In case of rain, the meal will be relocated to Piazza Lampi in the heart of Romeno.

The menu at the Fair of San Bartolomeo showcases traditional Trentino and Val di Non dishes, including polenta, luganega (sausage), other meats, and Trentingrana cheese.
